Round 5: 10C Blue 2 defeated HC 1

This week, the 10C Blues travelled down to the home ground of Haileybury in Keysborough. SKC were a little apprehensive regarding this week’s match as the team was down to nine players due to illness and transport issues. However, the remainder of the team marched onto the field to take on a confident looking Haileybury side. The 10C Blues started the match awkwardly, with constant changes in possession and thus making little chances for themselves and the opposition. However, Haileybury eventually got themselves sorted and started to gain the upper hand. Halfway through the 1st half, Haileybury snatched the ball up in our defensive half and managed to brake away and score a goal. SKC woke up after this and started to play some good soccer. Soon after the 10C Blues conceded, they hit back with a goal of their own as the ball was worked up from the back line straight to James Moulton who slid in a nice through ball to Darren Gulasekharam who slotted home a nice goal. SKC were motivated by this effort and really started to pile on the pressure. towards the end of the half, SKC worked an attack on Haileybury and moved the ball up to the wing where James Moulton had possession. James was being pressured by a defender when he fell to the pitch with a dislocated knee. The referee blew the whistle for half-time at this stage. The team was shocked by James’ injury as now we were done to eight men. SKC was offered some players from the other team but refused and continued to play the rest of the match with eight men. The 10C Blues started the second half with their hearts on their sleeves, playing with high determination and effort, and continuing to apply pressure on the Haileybury team. SKC were eventually rewarded with their efforts, scoring what proved to be a pivotal goal through James Hicks. For the rest of the match, the 10C blues played some smart soccer and closed down all the oppositions efforts to try to score. Finally the referee blew the whistle for full time. SKC had done the impossible and beat a full side with only eight men. Fantastic effort this week boys.
