From the TIC …..

As the new Teacher-in-Charge of Soccer at SKC I am very pleased to welcome you to our website in 2009. With 23 teams this year, soccer continues to be the most popular winter sport at both the Heyington and Waterford Campuses. We are looking forward to a very promising and exciting season, especially at the senior (VCE) levels where we will be fielding seven teams.

Last month there was keen competition from more than thirty boys as they vied for selection as a member of the 1st XI and we congratulate the following boys who have been successful in gaining a place in the squad for the start of the 2009 season:

From Year 12: Matthew Collier, Joshua Colosimo, Adam Fantoma, Kosta Karazisis,   Andrew Lightfoot, Spiro Raptodimos, Jacques Rogers & Elias Vitsentzatos

From Year 11: Abiel Chating, Luke Davrain, Didier Imbert, Joshua McMonagle-Ihasz & Edward Ring

From Year 10: Christopher Frangou, Billy Liolios, & Connor Pain

(Reserves: Jonathan De Biase, Luke Fantoma, & John Mulqueeny)

A very special welcome to more than 65 Year 7 students and their parents who will begin their involvement with us as we engage in a total of nine rounds of inter-school soccer matches for most teams this year. The first official round of matches takes place on Saturday 2nd May and there are six more rounds before the beginning of the Term II holidays. After that three week break, we compete in two more rounds before the season culminates in the Soccer Presentation Night on Saturday 8th August.

This year we welcome a number of new Staff coaches and team managers who will be assisted by a talented group of SKC Young Old Boys who have recently completed their Junior Coaching Licence through the FFV. We are also very pleased to again have the expertise of both Mr Jimmy Rooney (a former Captain of the Socceroos) and Mr Ian Lumsden as the Coach and Assistant Coach respectively of the 1st XI.

SKC is very fortunate to have an enthusiastic and dedicated group of parents who are prepared to support their sons’ passion for soccer through active membership of the Parents Soccer Association under the inspiring leadership of the current President, Mr Anthony Baldasso. I would encourage any parents who might be able to contribute in some way to the activities of this association, to make contact with myself or the President - see relevant section on this website for more information.

I wish all members of the SKC soccer community the best of luck for an enjoyable and successful season in 2009 as we pursue our passion for the ‘world game’ in our special part of the world.

Mr Nick Hale
